TeamSpeak is a program primarily used by gamers to communicate vocally using a common server. For gaming, it's one of those must-have programs along with xfire. However for a forum, especially this one, it would be a virtual catastrophe.

TeamSpeak is basically a vocal chat room, and requires all of it's users to be active & paying attention. Forums have two major advantages over chat rooms: one can carry multiple 'conversations' at once without confusion, and one can take time in making their contributions. In a chat, neither of those options are available. Considering that we're all spread out in at least 4 different time zones, no one's going to be talking. Even if we do get something going, it's going to be a) short-lived and b) not worth it since no-one is going to be able to say anything of value, since they are constantly pressured to respond. You might say that you can get a meaningful conversation going in real life, however those situations depend on previous experience, knowledge, and contemplation on the part of the participants. With a forum dicussion, one can digest the new information, and do some research into the subject, without breaking the train of thoughts. Basically, nothing new comes out of chats. The soap-box section cannot exist either in a chat or in rl.

Then you have the issue of population. We're a very small community. Chats are going to be born and buried very quickly, if they're born at all. With a large group, that's no longer and issue, however new ones crop up. First is the fact that once a conversation gets going, no one can enter it until it switches subject. The other, and more significant, is that with more people comes more idiots. This latter problem is especially bad if it's a vocal chat. No one will want to log in and suddenly hear "BOW CHICKA BOW WOW!" blazing from their speakers.

In summary: this forum thrives on meditated and prepared responses to numerous different discussions that are universally accessible to users. You can't do that in TeamSpeak.
