Sool: That is one of his most kick-ass songs. Which version are you listening to? I like the "acoustic/accordian" version off of the Rykodisc Bowie boxed set best....the sun machine is coming down and we're gonna have a party _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

oh yeah, i can't get this final chorus out of my head, it's terrific.
damn, i only know the album version, with a superb rockin' guitar solo at the end.
i have to hear the acoustic version though, i'm a fiend for acoustic versions of kickass songs. seriously, you want me to like you - play acoustic. _________________ i have no time for anal love

I did a search on itunes and I think the version I am thinking of is 7:08 min and is from the Space Oddity ablum. Not sure if it is the one from the Rykodisc collection, but hey, it's a buck. Listen to it -- from what I recall the "original" version had guitar sections during the part itune plays. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

I'm listening to "Sea Legs" by Spirit Caravan. Crunchy guitars, bluesy lead fills, heavy-ass drums. Wino rules.
Oh, now "Kill Ugly Naked" is on. It's been forever since I listened to this shit. Grateful for computers! All my CDs are but a mouse click away. No more flipping through my collection and wasting time loading the CD player. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

Adam Strange - Traveller
You know when you have a really intense feeling and you're not enough of a poet to describe it. There are no words, no metaphors. But there might be... a sound.
This is exactly that.
I'm feeling very Traveller by Adam Strange. _________________ bitchez n hose |

Prince's "Guitar". an advanced single that anticipates his new cd, coming out this summer.
it's disappointingly poor and unimaginative.
get your act together, Prince! _________________ i have no time for anal love

got it. it was there all the time, as a bonus track, i just didn't listen to it close enough and assumed it's the same version.
so yes, i love it. the accordion makes it really interesting. and the acoustic-guitar driven verses are much faster than on the proper album version.
i don't know which one i prefer, both are terrific.
oh and i finally paid attention to the rest of the album too. it's fantastic. i never expected him to have done such mature songwriting that early in his career.
i feel my Bowie fanboyism comin' back with a vengeance. what's Prince going to say? _________________ i have no time for anal love

@ Sool: Glad you found it. I don't know what I was thinking -- it was the Space Oddity re-release of the album not the boxed set -- although the box set does have the first (demo) version of A Space Oddity. Not sure where it originally came from, but I've got a kick ass version of (all people) Natalie Merchant singing it (I originally got it from Napster). There is also a cd floating arround (I've got a copy by Swinging Pig Records called White Light/White Heat but when I loaded it into iTunes, they called it: The Jean Genie (Vol.1) Live in Europe) that has some kick ass versions -- One of the first versions of "Kooks", Bombers (where he makes a mistake in the second verse) and a song I haven't seen anywhere else called "Let me sleep beside you" which rocks. As you may guess, a pretty big Bowie fan over here. Saw him in Foxboro MASS. in '90. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |
